Today’s NYT Strands hints and answers
Looking for Sundayâs Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here:
Well, Fatherâs Day has come and gone. I hope everyone had a lovely time, whether youâre a father or just have a father, or even ifâperhaps especially ifâyou donât have one in your life, I imagine that can be kind of difficult on a day like Fatherâs Day. I hope you all had a good day. I like Fatherâs Day now because my teenage children always just want to do their own thing but on Fatherâs Day (and on my birthday later this week) they have no excuses not to watch movies with me. I do miss when they were little and just wanted to spend time with me all the time. Itâs funny how we can take that for granted when weâre young parents and overwhelmed.
Ah, enough with the bittersweet. I saw Inside Out 2 this weekend and one of the most hilarious parts was the new emotion, Nostalgia, who would pop out briefly before being rushed away by the other emotions. âToo soon!â they exclaimed. Well, I am steeped in nostalgia now. Once it gets its clutches on you, it never really lets go.
Alright, letâs puzzle out this Strands grid, shall we?
How To Play Strands
The New York Timesâ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. Itâs in beta for now, which means itâll only stick around if enough people play it every day. Keep playing, in other words. Itâs our collective mission to keep this game alive and get it on the app!
Thereâs a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and youâll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.
Youâll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.
Strands still isnât on the New York Times games app, but you can play it right here.

Todayâs Strands Breakdown
I do love board games and Iâve played all of these, though not many of them in a long time. Once I found CLUE I immediately found the SPANGRAM and everything else fell into place until I had just RISK and TROUBLE left. I didnât see the âRâ for RISK for the longest time and that threw me off, but once I did it was easy enough. Of these, Iâd say CLUE and MONOPOLY are my favorites, though I have enjoyed many a game of SORRY. RISK was always a game I thought Iâd like more, but I feel like it needs more depth in its war mechanics to really shine. BATTLESHIP is all dumb luck. TROUBLE is the game Iâve played the least. I have enough trouble to deal with in my life already.
