German City Renames Itself For Taylor Swift Concert | Arts And Entertainment

A German city has renamed itself after Taylor Swift to celebrate the singer’s ‘The Eras World Tour.’ In preparation for the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer’s three concerts at Schalke stadium, the town of Gelsenkirchen has temporarily changed its name to Swiftkirchen. The idea to change the town’s name to Swiftkirchen, which translates to “Swift’s Church,” was proposed by local fan Aleshanee Westhoff who petitioned Mayor Karin Welge. In a letter to Westhoff, Mayor Welge said, “It’s a great idea to temporarily rename Gelsenkirchen to ‘Swiftkirchen’.” Swift recently performed three celebrity-packed concerts at Wembley Stadium in London, where she brought her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on stage. Kelce joked about appearing at Swift’s show, but she took him up on it and brought him out during the ‘1989’ segment.
