Yachtley Crew bringing ‘70s and ‘80s soft rock classics to Dr. Pepper Park

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -If you haven’t checked out Yacht Rock, it’s high time you come aboard.

The band, Yachtley Crew first brought its take on retro ‘70s and ‘80s soft rock hits to the stage in 2017.

“This is the soundtrack of my childhood. I have so many memories of listening to this stuff in the car with my dad and my mom in the summer. It was always on. Steely Dan was always playing. Hall and Oates,” says Phillip Daniel, a.k.a. singer “Philly Ocean” in Yachtley Crew.

The tribute band has struck a note with Yacht Rock lovers all over the country, and is in the middle of its Full Steam Ahead tour right now.

“The music is so nostalgic, it’s really made its way back into the hearts of so many people,” says Daniel. “You know, it’s been crazy to see how much our audience has grown in the past couple of years. Even more so since the pandemic. We didn’t know if we’d ever even play again when COVID hit.”

Speaking of the pandemic, that’s when the band decided to write some original music that fits into its smooth sounding set list.

“So, we wrote a song, it’s called “Sex on the Beach.” And it’s a love story. Sex on the Beach is actually a reference to a cocktail,” says Daniel.

If that has you thinking about summer fun, you’ll want to mark your calendar for July 19th.

That’s when the band will make a return appearance at Dr. Pepper Park.

“We actually played Dr. Pepper Park last year for the first time, and the crowd was epic. It’s such a cool, unique venue right in the bridge area right in the back. I can’t wait to come back,” says Daniel.

Yachtley Crew will perform at Dr. Pepper Park in Roanoke on Friday, July 19th. Gates open at 6 pm. For a link to buy tickets, click here.
