Heritage Festival entertainment to include You Don’t Know Jack and Cowboy Poet – Sterling Journal-Advocate

From country and rock music to a poet, this year’s July 4 Heritage Festival at the Overland Trail Museum will have entertainment for everyone.

The festival will begin with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. in Heidi Park directly across from the museum. The opening will feature the Logan County Fair queen candidates bringing in the flag on horseback to begin the event. Following the flag presentation, a beautiful rendition of the National anthem will be presented by Jack Albrecht.

The entertainment this year will feature “You Don’t Know Jack”. This popular duo, Dennis Fuller and Jack Albrecht are local favorites who combine their talents and play a variety of music including country, folk and rock. They’re known for being open to any and all song requests from their audiences.

During music breaks visitors will be enthralled listening to Cowboy Poet John Schaffner. John has performed his poetry far and wide including sharing the stage with Michael Martin Murphy at Cheyenne Frontier Days. When John is not sharing his Wild West poetry, he will be busy in his Chuckwagon serving guests samples of his famous Dutch oven cobbler!

Additionally, performing at 11:30 a.m. in the High Plains Education Center will be the local line dancing group, Boots In Motion. Come in to cool off and watch these energetic dancers! They welcome audience participation for those who would like to join in.

The museum is fortunate to have the support and help of Prairie Express who will be offering free shuttle rides back and forth across Highway 6 all day long. Visitors may park in the Justice Center parking lot and also in the West parking lot of the Overland Trail Recreation area (behind the Holiday Inn Express) located across Highway 6 from the museum.  Shuttles will begin running at 9:15 a.m. on the morning of July 4 and will continue to run all day until the end of the event at 3 p.m.

The parking lot at the museum is reserved for handicapped parking only with no exceptions. The Eagle Truckstop has also offered their back parking lot, which is located behind (to the south) their new building. Visitors may not park on the street or in the Best Western Sundowner parking lot. Parking at the Best Western or anyone blocking the truck stop will be towed at the owner’s expense.

The museum would like to give a special thanks to the following sponsors for allowing them to offer this wonderful event FREE of charge: City of Sterling, Logan County Commissioners, First Farm Bank, ExploreSterling.com (Logan County Lodging Tax Board), Logan County Historical Society and Colorado Housing and Finance Authority.
