Ian McKellen Hospitalized After West End Stage Fall | Entertainment

Ian McKellen was hospitalized after falling off stage during a performance of ‘Player Kings’ at the Noël Coward Theatre on the West End. The 85-year-old actor lost his footing and fell, prompting the immediate evacuation of the audience and cancellation of the evening show. A theater representative assured that McKellen is expected to make a speedy and full recovery and is “in good spirits”. The production also decided to cancel McKellen’s next performance, with affected ticket holders being contacted for further information. McKellen, portraying John Falstaff in this run of Shakespeare’s ‘Henry IV, Parts One and Two,’ began the 12-week engagement in April. During a fight scene, he apparently fell off the front of the stage, causing audience members to describe the incident as “very shocking”. An audience member confirmed that McKellen was conscious and calling for assistance as the house lights came up.
